July 15, 2014- Chester Springs, Pennsylvania – Barry Renninger, Partner with Allen & Renninger, LLC recently presented at the 58th Annual Convention of the Southwest Meat Association. Mr. Renninger spoke on the topic “The Process of Selling Your Business”. In 2008, Renninger and his partners sold their very successful ground beef processor, American Foodservice, to a private-equity firm.

In sharing his experiences with the members of the Southwest Meat Association, Renninger noted the many decisions an owner faces when selling his business. A timeline of events was presented along with the “Keys to a Successful Sale”.

Renninger explained how the Credit and Overall Merger and Acquisitions Market effect valuation. Further what methodologies Buyers use to value potential acquisitions; and how an owner can increase his Company’s valuation.

Several recent transactions were discussed including the Tyson Foods acquisition of Hillshire brands and the Chinese purchase of Smithfield Foods.

"Dealing With Underperformance and Distress in Your Portfolio Companies"

October 9, 2013, Chester Springs, Pennsylvania – Barry Renninger, Partner with Allen & Renninger, LLC was a panelist at the M&A East Conference presented by the Association for Capital Growth. The conference brought together 1,300 participants including private equity and investment banking firms, limited partners, corporate buyers, lending institutions and service advisors.

Renninger participated on a panel “Dealing with Underperformance and Distress in Your Portfolio Companies”. Joining Renninger on the panel were moderator David Gerson, a Partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, Scott Glickman, Senior Operating Partner at Graham Partners, and Aaron Wolfe, Managing Director at Sun Capital Partners.

Renninger explained the types of distress a company may face, methods used to detect distress, and how to address distress situations. In particular interest to food processors Renninger discussed the need for a Crisis Plan that outlines roles, responsibilities and expectations before a Crisis type event (i.e. product recall, fire, social media attack) occurs.

Using Metrics to Improve Financial Results

August 1, 2013, Chester Springs, Pennsylvania – Barry Renninger, Partner with Allen & Renninger, LLC recently presented at the 57th Annual Convention of the Southwest Meat Association. Mr. Renninger spoke on the topic “Using Metrics to Improve Financial Results." 

Renninger noted the challenge of operating a successful meat processing business where the typical return on sales is only 2.6%. To be successful the meat processor must focus on a limited number of key shop floor metrics to monitor and improve financial results.

Renninger explained how to identify which metrics to track and how to determine their dollar effect. He further explained how to use budgets so that operating personnel can better understand where to focus for operating improvement.
